Seasonal Flu is not the same as the H1N1 influenza

Many people are concerned about the Novel H1N1 flu virus. The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has determined that this virus is contagious and is spreading from person-to-person, probably like seasonal flu. This virus is thought to spread the same way seasonal flu spreads, primarily through respiratory droplets by coughing; sneezing; or touching respiratory droplets on oneself, or on another person or object.

Symptoms of this virus are similar to symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever greater than 101˚, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people have also reported diarrhea and vomiting. Most people who have been sick with this virus recover at home without treatment.

University Health Services (UHS) is continuing to monitor the situation. UHS works in close cooperation with both state and federal health agencies including the CDC. If further incidents of the flu are identified on campus, we will introduce necessary steps to maintain the health of the campus community for students, staff, faculty and guests.
