Do I need to make an appointment?

You may call 631-7497 at any time to make an appointment to see one of our physicians. Appointments to see a physician are encouraged to decrease your wait time; although you may walk in at any time to be seen by a registered nurse, without an appointment. The sickest patients are seen first, then those with appointments, then those without appointments. The nurse can assess the problem and for some conditions can initiate treatment. If you need further assessment or treatment by a physician, an appointment can be made with one of our University Health Service physicians. Their daily appointment schedule is structured to allow for some immediate referrals but expect to wait. If you come after regular doctor’s hours, the on-call physician can be consulted by phone by the nurse on duty, or you can be referred to a local Emergency Department.

Do you have to call my parents?

Students who are 18 years of age or older are considered adults and have the legal right to medical confidentiality. We do not and will not release any information to anyone about you without your written consent to do so. (Students who are here at Notre Dame as scholarship athletes sign a specific consent to share medical information with the Athletic Department.) If any charges are generated in the course of your treatment, they are billed to your student address. If labs are drawn, you will be asked who you want the bill sent to. Read About Patient Rights and Responsibilities.

How much does an exam cost?

There is no charge for an evaluation by the nurse or physician. If supplies are used or special procedures are done, those will be billed to your student account and can be filed by you (or your parents) with your private insurance carrier. View Insurance and Billing Information.

Where are you located?

The Student Health Center is located just northeast of the Administration Building, #46 on the campus map, just west of Stanford Hall, south of the lake. Refer to campus map-parking-west at http://www.nd.edu/maps

How can I get my records from the Health Center?

You must sign a Release of Information form here at the Health Center designating to whom you want to release the information, and which part(s) of your record you would like released.

Downloadable (PDF) Information Release Form

What if I have a special medical problem?

We are able to assist in the continued medical care of students with chronic diseases or special medical problems. Your records will be reviewed by our Medical Director, Dr. Rebecca Moskwinski, and we will work with you if necessary to refer you to the proper specialists in the South Bend area.

What are the hours?

We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year. We are closed during the Christmas break, and have limited hours between semesters, so call first if school is not in session!

What if I am really sick? Can I stay at the Health Center?

Yes, on the order of a University Health Service physician, students may be cared for in our observation unit. We have 6 beds for students who need nursing care for a day or days, including those recovering from surgery, those needing intravenous medications like antibiotics, or needing intravenous fluids for rehydration following an illness.
