Laboratory

The South Bend Medical Foundation (SBMF) is a CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments)-certified laboratory providing services on campus for all Notre Dame students and employees. The lab is located in St. Liam Hall and is open Monday–Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST during the academic year.

Testing on-site with results available within 30–60 minutes of specimen collection include:

*CBC (complete blood count)
*urinalysis
*sedimentation rates
*infectious mononucleosis screens
*occult blood screens

Any other lab test can be drawn here and processed through the SBMF within standard turnaround times. Samples for testing not performed on-site are sent by courier three times daily to SBMF’s Central Lab in downtown South Bend.

Students and employees are welcome to bring laboratory orders from outside physicians to University Health Services Lab.

SBMF will bill your legal guardian for the laboratory services provided unless otherwise directed. In order to bill your insurance company directly, SBMF needs a copy of your insurance card. Check with your insurance provider to determine whether SBMF is covered under your plan. If the lab work is not covered under your insurance plan, payment arrangements/discounts can be provided at the time of service through SBMF.
