Information for Persons Returning from a CDC Level 3 Country

Those traveling from CDC Level 3 affected countries may be subject to U.S. government health screening protocols upon arrival at major international airports in the United States, closest to their homes.  Out of an abundance of caution, and consistent with protocols that have been followed for others returning from countries affected by the coronavirus, those returning will also be required to self quarantine for 14 days and seek medical clearance if planning to return to campus.

While you transition through the 14 day self quarantine, UHS recommends that you practice social distancing (at least 6 feet). Social distancing means remaining out of public places where close contact with others may occur [e.g., dormitories, schools and other classroom settings, cafeterias, shopping centers, movie theaters, stadiums, workplaces, and local public conveyances (e.g., bus, subway, taxi, ride share)] for the duration of the wait period.

While in home isolation, students should do the following:

  • Please remain indoors at your assigned living quarters without exposure to others
  • Please do not take any visitors, including people also in self isolation.
  • Stay home except to get medical care - contact your home provider to set up an appointment for after the 14th day of self quarantine for medical clearance. Do not go to work, school, or public areas. Avoid using public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis.
  • Separate yourself from other people and animals in your home.
    • People: As much as possible, you should stay in a specific room and away from other people in your home. Also, you should use a separate bathroom, if available.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing. Then immediately wash your hands, as instructed below.
  • Clean your hands often by washing them with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains 60%–95% alcohol immediately after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. Soap and water should be used if hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid sharing personal household items (cups, dishes, utensils, toothbrush, towels, etc.)
  • Clean all “high-touch” surfaces such as doorknobs, remote controls, counter tops, bathrooms, or any other shared areas at least daily with a disinfectant spray or wipes
  • Monitor your symptoms, including your temperature morning and night. Best practice is to record your temperature on a Temperature Check Log to see if there are any trends or patterns
